Sheffield United striker Gary Madine has revealed that Billy Sharp endorsed his move to Bramall Lane

The pair have had their issues in the past, after the Blades top scorer was on the receiving end of some insulting comments made by Madine, which was filmed on social media two years ago -  a clip that soon went viral, with manager Chris Wilder saying that the 28-year-old forward 'lacks respect'.

But after his recent, surprising loan switch to Bramall Lane from Cardiff City on Monday afternoon, Madine admitted to the Sheffield Star that Sharp gave him the green light ahead of his move to Yorkshire, dismissing any bad blood between the pair:

"I know a few lads already, and I think Billy put a good word in about me to the gaffer, and said I’d be a good bit of recruitment - so I’m grateful for that and I’m hoping I can come and repay that faith, and score some goals."

The former Sheffield Wednesday man will be looking to hit the ground running with the Blades, and look to add a different dimension to the United attack as they look to keep putting the pressure on the automatic promotion places.

On the pitch, Wilder's men currently sit third in the Sky Bet Championship table, two points off the automatic promotion places, with second placed Norwich City facing fourth placed West Bromwich Albion this weekend.

The Verdict

This is definitely a really, really interesting signing, and I for one can't wait to see how it pans out.

Aside from the controversy in the past, I think Madine is a very smart signing for United - he'll offer something different to what they already have up front and knows where the goal is.

What a story this will turn out to be if the move pays off for United.
