Birmingham City’s pursuit of Aden Flint has turned the head of the Bristol City defender, reports the Birmingham Mail.

Lee Johnson has admitted that Birmingham’s pursuit of Flint has distracted the defender, who is reportedly keen on a move to St Andrew’s this summer.

Harry Redknapp is looking to bolster his Birmingham squad between now and the end of summer, as he looks to shape a group of players capable of challenging for promotion.

David Stockdale, Marc Roberts and Cheikh N’Doye are the only new faces at St Andrew’s this summer, and Redknapp is becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of transfer activity, with the 70-year-old keen to get Flint to the Midlands.

After his initial offer was rejected, Redknapp is set to return with an improved bid for Flint before this weekend’s clash with Ipswich Town.

Flint is not the only Bristol City player on Birmingham’s radar, with their bid for 28-year-old part of a double swoop to also sign Joe Bryan.

Johnson has described Birmingham’s bid to sign Flint and Bryan as derisory, with the Robins rejecting the offer.

Despite reports suggesting Flint is keen on making a move away from Ashton Gate this summer, Birmingham will face more competition to sign Bryan, with Leeds United and Fulham also reportedly interested in the 23-year-old left-back.

The Verdict

It is looking more and more likely that Flint will be playing his football away from Ashton Gate next season, with Championship clubs stepping up their interest in the defender.

Nathan Baker’s arrival at Bristol last week has given Johnson some breathing space, with the 26-year-old providing cover should Flint seal a move away from Ashton Gate.

Flint would be an excellent addition for Redknapp at Birmingham, and partnered alongside Roberts in defence, the Blues would have a solid base to work from.
