Chris Martin has insisted that he is not worried about his recent goal drought for Derby County, reports the Derby Telegraph.

Derby opted to bring Martin back to the Pride Park Stadium from Fulham over the summer, after the Scottish striker spent the 2016/17 campaign on-loan in London with the Cottagers, who he scored 11 goals for.

However, since his return to the Rams, Martin has failed to score a competitive goal in his six appearances in the Sky Bet Championship and Carabao Cup – leaving the 28-year-old without a Derby goal since April 2016.

Martin has always been prolific in a Derby shirt, having scored 63 goals in 167 appearances for the Rams.

When questioned if his recent goal drought was a worry, Martin was insistent it wasn’t something that bothered him, he said: “I'm naturally a confident person, so not scoring isn't something I really worry about.

"You just go into each game, expect to play your best and hopefully the goals will come.

"Recently that's not been the case for myself but I've not given it a second thought. I know if the chances keep coming along the goals will come.

"Once one goes in, you often go on a run of three or four in quick succession."

Martin has spent the last week on international duty with Scotland, but is set to return to Derby ahead of this weekend’s Championship fixtures.

Gary Rowett’s side face Hull City at the Pride Park Stadium on Friday evening, where they will be looking to add to the seven-points they have picked up form their opening five Championship fixtures.

Coincidentally, Martin’s last league goal for Derby came against Hull back in 2016.

The Verdict

Martin is an excellent Championship striker, and Rowett will be confident that the 28-year-old will rediscover his goalscoring touch sooner rather than later.

Derby missed Martin last season and it is a huge boost that he is back playing his football at Pride Park this year.

Rowett will be turning to his forward line to help Derby return to winning ways this weekend, after the Rams suffered a disappointing defeat to Sheffield United in their last league outing.
