Fabio Da Silva has confirmed he is back with Middlesbrough’s squad for this afternoon’s clash with Barnsley in the Sky Bet Championship.
The Boro defender has taken to his personal Instagram account to share a picture of himself, alongside the caption: “Back in the squad,” with the 27-year-old making a return after a lengthy lay-off.
Tony Pulis hasn’t called on the Brazilian yet in 2018, but he looks set for a return as Boro look to push on in the race to secure play-off football.
Fabio could return to hand Boro a boost this afternoon, with the 27-year-old looking for his first start since Boxing Day’s 2-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers at the Riverside Stadium.
Prior to his lay-off, Fabio featured in 18 Championship fixtures, with the bulk of those coming under former boss, Garry Monk.
Fabio returns to a Boro side that find themselves on a four-match unbeaten run in the Championship, having picked up 10 points from a possible 12 in recent weeks, which has pushed the Teessiders into pole position in the race for sixth.
Big results against Leeds United and Birmingham City have lifted Boro into sixth, with Pulis’ side now a point clear of Bristol City heading into this afternoon’s fixtures.
Fabio’s return will add competition for places at the Riverside Stadium, with the 27-year-old bolstering Pulis’ squad ahead of a key run of fixtures.
Whether the Brazilian is involved this afternoon against Barnsley remains to be seen, but with Boro firmly in the hunt for promotion, the likelihood is that he will be used between now and the end of the season.
