Pontus Jansson has reiterated his desire to win promotion to the Premier League with Leeds United, insisting that has been his dream since his first day at Elland Road.

The 27-year-old has been at Elland Road for two years now, but has been unable to guide Leeds to promotion, with the Whites finishing seventh and 13th in the last two seasons.

The Swedish international is currently on international duty at the World Cup in Russia, where he has faced plenty of questions about his Elland Road future.

In a recent interview with Fotbollskanalen, Jansson has reiterated his desire to play in the Premier League, but with Leeds: “My dream is to play in the Premier League but also always said I want to do it with Leeds.”

Jansson agreed a five-year deal with Leeds last season, which runs until the summer of 2022.

He revealed in the same Fotbollskanalen interview that he received a phonecall from Andrea Radrizzani, Leeds’ owner, who praised him for his effort so far at the World Cup.

Again, Jansson was quizzed on his future at Elland Road and if he discussed it with Radrizzani.

The 27-year-old insisted his full focus was on the World Cup, which Radrizzani understood: “No, nothing about the media and nothing else. He (Radrizzani) understands that I am here and focus on this and shows respect for it.”

The Verdict

Jansson has been in a difficult situation this summer, with the centre-back facing plenty of questions about his Leeds future.

When everything is considered, Jansson has dealt with the situation reasonably well.

Of course, he will attract interest this summer, but he has always tried to show his commitment to Leeds by making statements like he has here.

Supporters at Elland Road will be pleased to hear that Jansson has a desire to help Leeds to the Premier League, with this interview hinting that he is happy in West Yorkshire and not seeking a move elsewhere.
