Bruno Martins Indi has admitted he is considering leaving Stoke in order to make a return to Premier League football.

The Dutchman made just over 50 Premier League appearances for the Potters before their relegation from the top tier at the end of last season. The defender joined Stoke on a permanent transfer from Portuguese giants Porto in the summer of 2017, having spent the previous season on loan with the Potters.

Following an injury hit campaign last season, Martins Indi has been a regular feature for Stoke in the current season, making 36 Championship appearances, although the Potters have struggled to readjust to life back in the Championship, and sit 16th in the table with just four games of the season remaining.

With The Potters set for another Championship campaign next season, the 27-year-old has admitted that he is considering a move away from the Bet365, telling BBC Stoke: "I have ambitions to go to my top level again.

"That's still my dream. Hopefully that will be as soon as possible with Stoke, if not I need to look somewhere else."

Despite those comments, Martins Indi did admit that he can see a return to the top flight for Stoke under manager Nathan Jones, who took over from Gary Rowett in January, with the Dutchman adding: "He (Jones) came into a team that was very disappointed and from that moment to now we are all building a new environment.

"He has played a big part in that and hopefully that will be enough to bring Stoke back to the Premier League."

Martins Indi's current Stoke contract does not expire until the summer of 2022.

The Verdict

These comments are a concern for Stoke.

Martins Indi is a big presence and a regular feature at the back for Stoke, and you feel he would be one of the players they would be keen to keep hold of in the summer.

The fact that there is still plenty of time left on the Dutchman's contract gives Stoke an advantage, since it gives them plenty of room to negotiate.
