Former Leeds United forward Marcus Antonsson has admitted that "it wasn't a difficult decision" to leave Leeds United at the end of last season.

The 27-year-old signed for Leeds under Garry Monk from Kalmar in 2016. After scoring three goals in 21 games for the Whites, the forward was shipped out on loan to Blackburn Rovers, before leaving Elland Road for good in the summer.

Antonsson has been on fire for new club Malmo FF, scoring 11 goals in 21 games for the Swedish outfit, including three goals in his last three Europa League games.

Speaking to Fotboll Direkt, Antonsson said: "This summer, I had a year left on the deal with Leeds, and I didn’t have a thought of moving home to Sweden at all.

"But when it’s Malmo concerned, with all that means, they are frequently the champions and a team that have been in Europe several times, it wasn’t a difficult decision."

Leeds currently sit second in the Sky Bet Championship table, one point off league leaders Norwich City and five points clear of the play-off places.

Antonsson's former side head to Bolton Wanderers this weekend looking for a fifth consecutive victory to take them into the festive period.

The Verdict

It's a case of the one that got away - Antonsson has been on fire in front of goal for Malmo, and who knows, if Bielsa had given him a chance he could have been a great player for Leeds this season.

He didn't too bad at Blackburn and shone for Leeds on some occasions.

Thankfully, Kemar Roofe has delivered this season in front of goal and Leeds aren't regretting their decisions with their forwards.
