Liam Cooper has added more revelations about Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds' preparations this week, revealing that he sets the players homework before matches.

As reported by Leeds Live, the 27-year-old club captain gave a fascinating insight into the methods of a manager who has caused such controversy in the last week or two.

Bielsa could be in hot water with the FA following the recent spying revelations, although he tried to dampen down those impending problems with a revealing and insightful press conference last weekend.

Some managers felt his presentation was merely stating the obvious, but as a player Cooper confirmed Bielsa's methods are not what they've been used to, citing the fact they're top with fundamentally the same group of players as last season.

“It’s the same group of players getting coached by one of the best coaches in the world. We couldn’t believe it when the club went and got him, and he’s been a pleasure to work with from day one."

He then revealed the level of preparation put in by the manager extends to the first team, who are given something to take home and brush up on, much like school children.

“A couple of days before the opponent, we’ll have a meeting – individual meetings as well – and he’ll tell us what we need to do in the game and what we can do better.

“The lads take that sheet of paper and they look at it, it’s all printed out, all the key points and we look at that before we go to bed at night or during the day or whatever, before the game. It definitely helps.”

The Verdict

I had to laugh when managers started coming out and saying that Bielsa's preparation was nothing unusual. Of course it is, the players admit it is. Paul Heckingbtottm had the same group and what did he achieve? Nothing.

Why? Because he doesn't prepare like Bielsa. It's that simple.

The current hate aimed at Leeds is hugely disproportionate to the so-called crime they've committed. It's been going on for years, everyone needs to relax. Focus on beating them on the pitch, not stealing points off it.

As for the homework, I wonder if that little nugget will put anyone off signing for the club!
