Stuart Dallas could be set for a new role under Marcelo Bielsa, with the Leeds United head-coach seeing the midfielder as an option in a central position.

During his time at Elland Road, Dallas has featured mainly as a winger, with the bulk of his 117 appearances for the club coming on the left or the right.

Last year, under Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom, Dallas featured at both left-back and right-back, whilst Bielsa experimented with the Northern Irish international as a wing-back over pre-season – a position he has played on the international stage.

However, according to Phil Hay at the Yorkshire Evening Post, Bielsa sees Dallas as a potential central midfield option.

The 27-year-old has made just one appearance so far this season, stepping off the bench against Stoke City on the opening day of the season and taking up Mateusz Klich’s role in central midfield.

Dallas’ opportunities have been limited since then, with the midfielder struggling with a quad injury.

Earlier in the week, Bielsa confirmed that Leeds were expecting Dallas back within 20 days of him picking up his injury, indicating that his return could be on the horizon.

The Verdict

This is interesting, as Dallas has proved himself to be a very good Championship winger during his time with Leeds.

However, he could be suited to central midfield.

He has good energy, whilst he is reasonable on the ball.

Whether he has the passing range to dictate a game from central midfield remains to be seen, but if Bielsa turns to the Northern Irishman, he will get 100% effort from his player at the very least.
