Leeds defender Pontus Jansson refused to commit his future to the Whites as he gears up for the World Cup with Sweden.

The 27-year old established himself as a fans favourite at Elland Road after joining from Torino and enjoyed a superb first season at the club.

However, things have not gone as well for Leeds or Jansson since and Aftonbladet - via the Yorkshire Evening Post - reveals how the player reiterated his desire to play in the English top-flight.

"I want to see the club’s ambitions. I want to play in the Premier League but I don’t want to take those questions before the World Cup. I’ve said that to Martin (Dahlin). Everything can change during the World Cup."

Jansson, who has been linked with Southampton, Burnley and West Ham in the past added that there is still interest in him.

"There is interest. All I know is that I'm going to stay in England. It will take a lot for me to leave England. I really enjoy Leeds but I want to see the ambition that now is the time to take Leeds up to the Premier League."

The Verdict

Leeds fans might be getting annoyed with Jansson now as it's not the first time he has hinted at leaving and it won't be appreciated after the season he has had.

However, there's no doubt he is still a good player and you can tell from his comments he wants Leeds to show ambition and prove they can go for promotion which is understandable.

And, it seems the club are doing that with Marcelo Bielsa linked as manager and that could be enough to convince Jansson to stay.
