26-year-old Sheffield Wednesday defender seals move back to Holland

Sky Bet Championship side Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed the departure of central defender Daryll Lachman on a season long loan to Willem II, via their official website.

The 26-year-old defender joined the Owls in the summer of 2015 from FC Twente for an undisclosed fee, but was unable to break into Carlos Carvahal’s side last season, which subsequently lead to a move to SC Canbuur, where he notched up 15 appearances.

Carvahal will hope that he can gain some valuable game time back in his homeland, and it also seems he has faith in the defenders that helped the side to a 6th place finish in the Championship last season, only missing out on promotion in the play off final to Hull.

Wednesday have endured a tough start to the season following their opening day win over Aston Villa. A good 0-0 draw away to Norwich has been followed up by consecutive defeats to Burton Albion and Leeds United, while they have also been knocked out of the EFL Cup.

Wednesday fans… what do you make of this departure? Will he be a big loss to your promotion push this season? Have your say in the comments below!
