26-year-old on the verge of leaving Leeds United

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Phil Hay, Leeds United goalkeeper, Marco Silvestri, is on the verge of leaving Elland Road.

Silvestri has left Leeds’ training camp in Austria to discuss a move to Verona, with a deal between Leeds and the Italian outfit at an advanced stage, according to reports.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper signed for Leeds ahead of the 2014/15 campaign, and has gone on to make 98 senior appearances for the Whites across three seasons.

Despite featuring as the club’s number one during his first two seasons at Elland Road, Silvestri found himself out-of-favour under Garry Monk last year, making just six appearances.

Those appearances came in the EFL Cup and FA Cup, with Rob Green preferred for all 46 Sky Bet Championship fixtures.

Green is again in contention to be Leeds’ number one next season, but the arrival of Felix Wiedwald from Werder Bremen earlier this summer, has seen Silvestri fall further down the pecking order.

Silvestri is one of four goalkeepers currently on the books at Elland Road, and his potential departure could open the door for Bailey Peacock-Farrell to come back into Thomas Christiansen’s plans.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper was due to join Oldham Athletic on a season-long loan, but the League One outfit pulled out of a deal.
