26-year-old delivers classy message to Stoke City

Xherdan Shaqiri has delivered a message to Stoke City, after sealing a move away from the bet365 Stadium in the last 24 hours.

The Swiss winger has agreed a long-term contract with Liverpool back in the Premier League, with Stoke moving to confirm the departure of the 26-year-old late last night.

Shaqiri has now taken to his personal Twitter account to deliver a passionate message to Stoke City, thanking everybody at the club for what he describes as a wonderful three years, before backing the Potters to return to the Premier League.

The Switzerland international made 84 Premier League appearances for Stoke since arriving in the summer of 2015 from Inter Milan.

In that period of time he scored 15 goals for the Potters.

Last season, despite Stoke struggling and eventually suffering relegation, the winger scored eight goals and registered a further seven assists.

Since then, he represented Switzerland at the 2018 World Cup, scoring a goal and registering an assist in his four appearances, as his side reached the Last 16 of the competition.

He has swiftly sealed a move to Liverpool to link up with Jurgen Klopp’s after returning from the World Cup.

The Verdict

This is a classy message from Shaqiri, who is looking to depart Stoke with some respect.

Of course, things haven’t worked out in the last 12 months, but the winger has still been good to the club.

It was impossible to see Shaqiri staying in the Championship, particularly with a club like Liverpool showing interest.

Stoke’s supporters should be wishing him all the best with his move.
