Brighton winger Jiri Skalak is having a medical with Millwall, London News Online is reporting.

The two clubs have agreed a fee, and the Czech Republic international is now to decide on personal terms once the medical is complete.

Millwall have been on the lookout for a left-winger after their heavy pursuit of Ben Marshall ended in the former Wolves man signing for their Championship rivals Norwich City.

Marshall had been on loan at the London club last year and made an impact that manager Neil Harris wanted to make permanent but to no avail.

Since the disappointment of the Marshall deal not materialising, the Lions have been looking for a suitable replacement.

The 26-year-old winger looks set to be the man to fill the void of former loanee ahead of a permanent switch from the south coast.

Skalak made just three appearances for the Seagulls last year, all in cup competitions.

The season prior, the winger helped Brighton to the Premier League making 37 appearances.

Despite failing to score, the Czech made 13 assists.

The Verdict

Millwall fans should not write off Skalak before he has even kicked a ball for the club.

Stats at previous clubs count to see degree when determining if a player is good enough, but he should be judged on how he does with a Lion on his chest.

A dead-ball specialist who has an eye for an assist is that Millwall fans should be looking at and if he can chip in with a goal or two, that would be handy.

Skalak could prove to be just as good, if not better than Marshall, and after a disappointing season for the Premier League side last year, he will have a point to prove.

The makeup of the deal suits both Millwall and the player, and we all know Lions fans love an underdog.
