Stoke City are ready to let up to 15 first-team players leave the club this summer, The Mirror is reporting.

Gary Rowett has arrived at the bet365 Stadium as the new manager of Stoke after leaving Derby County and he wants a major overhaul at the club.

Star trio Joe Allen, Jack Butland and Xherdan Shaqiri head the list of possible departures this summer.

Allen, who has a £25m release clause in his contract if a top six side bid for him, is a target for Celtic while Butland has been linked with Wolves and Shaqiri is attracting lots of interest.

Stoke are also set to get rid of veteran midfielders Charlie Adam, Darren Fletcher and Stephen Ireland - with the latter out of contract this summer.

Glen Johnson's deal is also expiring and he will not be offered fresh terms.

Ibrahim Affelay, Geoff Cameron, Kevin Wimmer, Gianelli Imbula and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will also be allowed to leave the club in the summer transfer window, but Rowett is set to hand a lifeline to Saido Berahino.

The former England under-21 international arrived from West Bromwich Albion for £15m in January 2016 but has not scored a single goal for the Potters.

The Verdict

A major overhaul is probably needed and some deadwood needs to be shifted.

Stoke will struggle to hold onto Allen, Butland and Shaqiri and they need to make sure they receive sizeable fees for them to reinvest that into the squad.

Meanwhile, Affelay, Imbula, Choupo-Moting and Wimmer will all think they can play at a higher level, although I'd have retained Cameron, Adam, Fletcher and Ireland as solid Championship standard players to bulk out the squad.
