Hull City are expected to have funds to spend in January, according to reports.

The Tigers have aspirations of pushing towards the play-off places but currently find themselves six points off the pace.

That means that in order to move themselves up the table they may have to enter the market in January as they look for potential reinforcements.

Hull City writer Philip Buckingham was conducting a Q&A session for Hull Live when he was asked about potential plans for the transfer window.

While admitting that he thought that funds would be available, Buckingham also suggested that the kitty could be boosted by offloading two outcasts.

He said: "Listening to Grant McCann discuss January at length on Friday, he seemed confident that money will be made available regardless.

"It won’t be a wheelbarrow full of cash but enough to strengthen. That said, it wouldn’t do his January budget any harm if a few players can be moved on.

"Markus Henriksen and David Milinkovic, for example, have played no part in City’s Championship season and removing them from the wage bill would free up funds for elsewhere.

"Henriksen is the big one. Sell him for, say £500,000, and the club would be roughly £1m better off when you include the wages they would no longer have to pay in the second half of the season.

"As things stand, Henriksen has become a financial drain."

The verdict

The January transfer window is a key time in the Championship season, particularly for a side pushing for the play-offs.

Hull City are one of a number of team who are hoping to mount a challenge for the top six, and if they're to do that they may need to strengthen in the New Year.

The Tigers haven't spent huge amounts in recent January transfer windows, and it appears that it may be a similar story this time around.
