Kemar Roofe is set to be part of Marcelo Bielsaâs plans at Leeds United, despite the forward attracting interest from Blackburn Rovers. Â Â
According to Phil Hay from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Blackburn have shown an interest in Roofe, but itâs his belief that the forward will be involved in Bielsaâs plans ahead of the new season.
Bielsa admitted yesterday in his press conference that Leeds have 15 players more than they need heading into the new season, indicating that many could be cut this summer.
However, it doesnât appear that Roofe will be one of those, following Hayâs latest update.
Last season, the 25-year-old was Leedsâ top goalscorer, featuring in a number of different positions across the attack.
Roofe scored 14 goals across all competitions, with 11 of those coming in the Championship from 36 appearances.
Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom both experimented with Roofe in a No.9 role last season, with the forward also featuring in a slightly deeper role.
The bulk of his appearances came from the wing, but Roofe proved to be more prolific in a central role, scoring a hat-trick from that position in a 3-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers in early December.
The Verdict
Roofe was good last season in a poor side at Leeds, and Bielsa will be confident of getting the best out of the 25-year-old.
It is expected that Leeds will play attacking football under Bielsa, with plenty of attacking roles for Roofe to feature in.
The forwardâs versatility across the line will be something that pleases Bielsa, whilst his goalscoring record from last season means he certainly deserves a chance under the Argentine.
