25-year-old set for Birmingham City exit

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Carl Jenkinson is set to have his loan spell with Birmingham City cut short this month, with Arsenal set to recall the defender ahead of another loan move.

Harry Redknapp moved to take Jenkinson on-loan during the summer transfer window, but the Arsenal defender has featured just once for the Blues, picking up an injury on his debut for the club and failing to make another appearance for the club since then.

The 25-year-old completed just 32 minutes of his debut against Reading, before he was withdrawn with a dislocated shoulder, which has forced him to miss over four months of Sky Bet Championship action.

Arsenal will recall Jenkinson from his injury-hit spell at St Andrew’s with the view to loaning him elsewhere during the January transfer window.

Jenkinson will be leaving Birmingham, now under the management of Steve Cotterill, fighting relegation in the Championship, after the Blues endured a testing first-half of the season.

Cotterill’s side currently sit 23rd in the Championship table, one-point adrift of Hull City and safety in early 2018.

The Blues are back in Championship action this weekend, facing Derby County at St Andrew’s.

The Verdict

Jenkinson has suffered a disappointing spell at St Andrew’s with his shoulder injury hindering his game time with Birmingham.

Arsenal recalling Jenkinson will leave Birmingham short in the full-back area, with the likelihood now that Cotterill will have to turn to the transfer window to strengthen.

This is another blow for Birmingham, who have their backs against the wall in the fight for survival in the Championship.
