25-year-old back in contention for Barnsley after Premier League move collapses

Andy Yiadom’s move from Barnsley to Huddersfield Town has fallen through, reports BBC Radio Sheffield’s Jonathan Buchan.

Despite only arriving at Barnsley 12-months ago, Yiadom looked set to end his spell at Oakwell this summer, after failing to agree an extension on his contract with the Tykes.

Barnsley eventually agreed a deal with Huddersfield Town for the right-back to make the move to the Premier League, but Paul Heckingbottom has now confirmed that the deal is off.

Heckingbottom claims that Barnsley were happy with their part of the deal, with the deal breaking down between Yiadom and Huddersfield.

The 25-year-old was exceptional for Barnsley in the Sky Bet Championship last season, making 32 appearances and helping the Tykes comfortably finish in mid-table on their return to the second-tier.

Yiadom also featured in Barnsley’s first two fixtures of the 2017/18 campaign, a defeat to Bristol City and a Carabao Cup victory over Morecambe.

However, Heckingbottom has opted to leave Yiadom out of Barnsley’s last two Championship fixtures, due to the speculation surrounding his future.

Heckingbottom is now considering bringing Yiadom back into contention this Saturday when his side face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

The Tykes are going in search of back-to-back victories, after they picked up their first three-points of the season thanks to a 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest.

The Verdict

This update is certainly a surprise, with many thinking that Yiadom had played his last game for Barnsley.

However, Heckingbottom will be pleased to welcome the defender back into his squad this weekend for a massive clash with Sheffield United, where another three-points will be on the agenda.

Barnsley’s performances have picked up after a difficult start, and Yiadom’s return will only help improve things ahead of this weekend’s local derby with Sheffield United.
