Aitor Karanka’s side look like they might miss out on signing Peterborough winger Gwion Edwards after Posh stepped up new contract talks.

Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in signing the 25-year-old winger this summer - as per HITC, after another disappointing season in the Championship, which saw them finish seventeenth.

According to the Peterborough Telegraph, Director of Football at the London Road Stadium Barry Fry has opened up talks with the Welshman to extend his contract for Steve Evans' team, with the manager stating: “Gwion will be one of my main men next season.”

Edwards featured 31 times in all competitions this season for Posh, in a season where they finished ninth in the League One table.

Forest will be active in this summer’s transfer window, but may face competition for Gwion Edwards, as the likes of Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City are also reportedly interested, as well as his current club Peterborough also keen on keeping him at the Posh and see out the one year left he has on his contract.

The Verdict

Nottingham Forest need to invest in some new players this summer if they are to make any impact in the Championship next season.

Losing out on Peterborough forward Gwion Edwards will be a real blow for Aitor Karanka’s side, as the Welshman scored seven goals in all competitions this season.
