On loan Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas will be hoping to continue his run in the Bristol City side after returning from injury earlier this month.

The Robins are currently sat 11th in the Championship table and they remain very much in the play-off chasing pack as they are just three points behind 6th placed Derby County.

Kalas joined Lee Johnson's side in the summer on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea, but the defender has admitted that his future remains unclear at the Blues when he returns to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

'I always wanted it (to play for Chelsea) but I can see for myself the way it goes or the way it went so far, and I’m not sure,' Kalas explained via the Bristol Post.

'But obviously when Chelsea come with a new contract, as they did a year and a half ago, it’s quite difficult to turn them down because you’re not playing just for fun, it’s your job and that’s the perfect opportunity to have some security.'

The Czech Republic international has made just four appearances for Chelsea since he joined the club in 2010.

The 25-year-old revealed that Chelsea do remain in contact with him and the other players that are currently out on loan from the club.

'A couple of days ago, Paulo Ferreira (technical coach at Chelsea) was here at the Hull game to find out how I’m settling down – bringing some analysis about the game, and trying to help me improve myself.

'Obviously, they’ve got so many players on loan, so it’s not easy to be in touch every single day or even every single week, because they have to go around the whole of Europe to see everyone. But at least they show we are not forgotten.'

Kalas is likely to be searching for a new club in the near future with regular first-team football essential if he is to progress as a well-established defender.

The Verdict:

Kalas' comments won't come as a surprise to Chelsea fans as he has rarely featured for the club since he signed for them.

He has impressed me whilst out on loan at both Fulham and Bristol City, and he will play a crucial part in the Robins squad this season if they are to challenge for a top-six finish.
