Aston Villa slipped to a 2-0 defeat against West Brom this weekend, which prompted defender Tyrone Mings to put a passionate plea on social media.

He posted a picture of the Villa fans with a caption saying that everyone must 'stick together'. It came in the wake of a terrible run of results which has seen Dean Smith's side drop out of the play-off hunt.

Some fans took his tweet in the wrong manner, believing he was having a go at the fans, something he's had to move to deny.

He's put out another tweet, telling how the fans were superb and his picture and original post represented everyone fighting for the cause. If Villa fans paid close attention, they'd see Mings angry at a decision and a bank of fans behind him in exactly the same frame of mind.

The 25-year-old has had a torrid time since his deadline day move from Bournemouth, firstly with the stamping controversy and now this mini backlash from some fans. He, more than anyone, will be hoping to get a win and clean sheet this weekend away at Stoke City.

The Verdict

When you're down, you're down. Fans are looking for anything they can to latch on to and be angry about, because Villa are languishing and it's clear for all to see.

Mings must feel a little hard done by after the backlash, but it does show how an innocent post can be misconstrued and blown out of context.
