According to the Daily Mail, Ben Gibson is set to be offered a new deal by Middlesbrough, as they look to tempt the defender into staying at the Riverside Stadium.

Gibson is in-demand this summer following Boro’s relegation to the Sky Bet Championship, with a host of top-flight clubs looking to hand the 24-year-old a route back into the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly scouted Gibson, but the only firm interest is coming from West Bromwich Albion, who have had three bids rejected by Boro.

The latest of those offers was a club-record £21m, but Boro continue to play hardball over Gibson, who they are only willing to lose to a top-six Premier League outfit.

Boro and Garry Monk are desperate for Gibson to stay in the North East and help his boyhood club secure an instant return to the Premier League.

The defender is set for talks with Boro’s owner Steve Gibson, who is also the player’s uncle, where the Teessiders plan to offer a lucrative contract to remain in the Championship.

Boro will be fighting against Gibson’s World Cup ambition, with the defender looking to break back into England’s squad for next summer’s tournament in Russia, having been handed a first call-up earlier in 2017.
