Kemar Roofe has insisted that Leeds United’s only focus is on promotion from the Sky Bet Championship this season, reports the BBC’s, Adam Pope.

The Whites have enjoyed a positive start to the Championship season under Thomas Christiansen, currently sitting fifth, having picked up 20 points from their opening 11 fixtures.

Roofe was part of the Leeds squad that finished seventh under Garry Monk last season, despite sitting in a play-off place for much of the season.

The 24-year-old forward has now reiterated Leeds’ desire to go one better this season and end the club’s 14 year wait for a Premier League return, he said: “Why not? Our goal is to go one better than last season.

“Doesn't matter how we go up - automatic or play-offs."

Despite Leeds’ magnificent start to the season, they return from last week’s international break on a poor run of form, which has seen them slip from the top of the Championship table to fifth.

Leeds have lost three of their last four Championship fixtures, suffering defeats against Millwall, Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday, which all came away from Elland Road.

Christiansen’s side return to home soil this weekend though, hosting Reading on Saturday afternoon.

Reading were one side challenging Leeds for the play-offs last season, but Jaap Stam’s side have been unable to rediscover that form this year, currently sitting a single point outside the relegation zone.

The Verdict

Leeds’ aim is clear this season, anything less than a top-six finish is a failure, which is brave, but will delight supporters.

So far, Christiansen’s side have shown enough to mount a serious change on the play-offs, despite their recent slump in form.

If Leeds can iron out a few areas of their game, there is absolutely no reason why they can’t challenge for automatic promotion in the Championship.
