Striker Jack Marriott bagged himself his first Championship goal since his summer move from Peterborough, but was left with contrasting emotions as his side failed to secure the win.

The Rams drew 1-1 with Queens Park Rangers to leave themselves seventh in the table going into the fortnight off, with Marriott opening his league account in the 24th minute of the tie. American international Geoff Cameron levelled for the home side, leaving the striker caught in two minds about how to feel.

"We all feel a bit disappointed," Marriott told Derby Live. "I think we deserved a lot more."

The Rams had more possession and made more passes than their hosts, but could only manage a similar amount of shots at goal over the 90 minutes. One of those shots came from Marriott who finally got a chance to show what he could do in the first team.

"It's great. The gaffer has put me in and I just wanted to work hard and prove him right by choosing me. I'd like to think I did alright - but we didn't get the three points."

What was pleasing for Marriott was his own goal, which he went on to describe.

"It was a good ball from Johnno, Bryse (Craig Bryson) has taken the defender away and I just took it first time and it has gone in, which was pleasing."

Marriott began his career at Ipswich, before a move to Luton Town, he impressed sufficiently at Kenilworth Road to earn a move to Peterborough, where the goals continued to flow resulting in his big summer move to Pride Park.

The Verdict

Marriott has been patient waiting for his chance, but now he's seized it he deserves a run in the side. He's a natural goal scorer and if he keeps playing, he'll end up in double figure by Easter.

Frank Lampard will be happy to get to the October break in the position they're in, it's a great platform to build upon once they're back in action on the 20th.
