Newcastle United's forgotten man Massadio Haidara has admitted to being very frustrated, according to The Shields Gazette.

Injuries hampered his chances of first team action in the first half of the season but he has been limited to just two FA Cup appearances (he was substituted in both) for the senior side this season, despite being fit since January.

The Frenchman faces competition from Paul Dummett and Achraf Lazaar at left back but he has admitted that he is frustrated with his lack of playing time.

The 24-year-old has been forced to play for the under-23 team a few times this season and he notes that this is valuable in maintaining a level of match fitness, so that the fringe players are ready when called upon.

Haidara added that it was frustrating to not know when you might be needed too.

However, with a more positive spin, Haidara insisted he was using his frustration as motivation to show Rafa Benitez that he is capable.

The left back said:

“As a player you have to keep your condition – you have to be ready for the day you are needed to play for the first-team.

“You have to keep your head down and you have to make sure you work hard.

“It is not always easy but you have to try and enjoy it.

“This is the most difficult thing.

“One day you know you will have your chance but you will never know when.

“As a player you have to keep pushing yourself every day in training to make sure that when you are needed you are fit and ready to do your best.”

“Mentally it can be hard.

"I am frustrated.

“Every player would be the same.

“I am a little bit disappointed with this season because every player wants to play in the first-team.

“When you are not frustrated at not playing there must be something wrong.

“But you have to make sure you use your frustration in a good way.

“It needs to make you want to show more.”
