Lincoln City are on the cups of achieving something that has happened only once for them in the last three decades; third-tier football.

Aside from a brief foray into that level in 1998/99, the Imps have exclusively plied their trade in League Two or the National League, ever since dipping out of the old Division Three in the summer of 1986.

Some fans of a certain vintage can remember them playing in what is now the Championship for ten seasons on the bounce, but those days are a long way away. Are they coming back under the watchful eyes of the Cowley Brothers?

After a first-ever Wembley appearance, an FA Cup Quarter Final and the National League title, some fans think anything is possible. They can't do it on belief and spirit alone though, there's the small matter of the playing squad and improving this January.

Where do we think Lincoln City need to build? There's a couple of key areas, but we've put together a three-point plan which we feel would ensure them a top three finish come May.

Striker Matt Green made a surprise pre-Christmas move to Salford City, leaving them short up front. There's a need for a nippy striker, hanging off John Akinde at home but maybe able to drop out wide if needed.

We think Ashley Nadeson would be perfect, the Fleetwood striker currently at Carlisle. He's been recalled and is likely to be on the market come the middle of the month.

His pace would add a fresh dimension to the Imps attack.

The Imps have been short of cover at full back all season, Harry Toffolo is the only fit recognised left back, whilst Neal Eardley is the only dedicated right back at the club.

If they're going to ensure no calamity in the final half of the season, they must address this urgently. A young loan player capable of operating on either side would be top of the wish list.

The Imps' attack relies heavily on wingers, quick and able to get beyond the last man and deliver a telling cross. Bruno Andrade and Harry Anderson have been excellent so far this campaign, but outside of those two the story is more depressing.

They must look to attract cover for those high-energy players. Danny Rowe of Ipswich arrived on loan last winter and a player of his ilk would be perfect once more.
