Barnsley will once again go in search of a first league win since the opening day of the season on Wednesday night, when they host Derby County at Oakwell.

Since that early August victory at home to Fulham, it has been a difficult return to the second tier of English football for the Tykes, culminating in a 3-1 defeat to Brentford on home soil on Sunday, with Ollie Watkins netting a hat-trick of headers for the Bees to cancel out Cauley Woodrow's early strike for Daniel Stendel's side.

Having slipped into the Championship relegation zone recently, Barnsley will be desperate to avoid being cut adrift at the bottom of the league, and that may mean it is essential that they pick up a result against the Rams in midweek.

With that in mind, we've taken a look at the staring XI that the Tykes' fans may want to see lineup when they take on Derby on Wednesday night.

Having employed a 4-2-3-1 formation for much of this season, you imagine Barnsley will be expected to stick to that again on Wednesday.

In goal, with first-choice goalkeeper Samuel Radlinger still absent through injury, it looks as though it will be Bradley Collins who continues between the posts for Daniel Stendel's side.

With all three crosses that were headed in by Watkins on Sunday having come down the left-hand side, it is possible that a return to the XI for Dani Pinillos will be appealing to Tykes fans, while Aapo Halme and the significant physical presence of Mads Andersen and Dimi Cavare ought to make up the rest of the defence.

The holding midfield roles should then go to Alex Mowatt and Toby Sibbick.

Mowatt has the proven ability to contribute at this level, while Sibbick is already impressing with his awareness and commitment in the centre of the park in the Championship following his summer move from AFC Wimbledon, making him a challenging proposition for plenty of opposition midfielders.

Ahead of them, Barnsley fans will surely be hopeful of seeing the return from injury for club captain Mike Bahre, who is expected to be available after missing the defeat to Brentford, while Mallik Wilks may be in line for a start after looking promising from the bench against the Bees.

Upfront, despite his side's recent difficult run, Cauley Woodrow continues to impress with his ability to produce spectacular moments - having done so to put Barnsley ahead inside a minute against Brentford - and you imagine the Tykes will look to him to do the same again on Wednesday.
