Middlesbrough face another tricky test as they take on Preston North End on New Years Day.

The Teessiders are on their best of form so far this season having won each of their last three fixtures, and just one defeat in their last six games.

That has taken Jonathan Woodgate's nine points clear of the relegation zone and into 16th in the table.

A clash with Alex Neil's side is set to be a stern test but given their positive run of form, Middlesbrough will be quietly confident of being able to pull off an upset.

But who will Jonathan Woodgate select to take on the Lilywhites? We take a look.

Given Middlesbrough's fine run of form, it's difficult to suggest any alterations to Jonathan Woodgate's side.

Darren Randolph is not yet fit to return, meaning that Aynsley Pears will keep his place between the sticks.

Middlesbrough's defence has been one of their brightest spots in recent weeks, meaning that Jonny Howson, Daniel Ayala and Dael Fry should start at centre-back, while Hayden Coulson and Djed Spence will be given the opportunity to continue their fine form down the flanks.

Paddy McNair returns from suspension for the trip to Deepdale, but given the team's excellent displays of late, Woodgate may choose to keep the faith with Adam Clayton, George Saville and Lewis Wing in midfield.

Do you know where these 15 ex-Middlesbrough players are now?

Britt Assombalonga is another player who may not be ready to return, but Woodgate won't mind too much based on recent displays.

Marcus Tavernier has been very impressive in a more advanced role, while Ashley Fletcher is brimming with confidence after his stunning 50-yard strike against West Brom.

The duo are likely to spearhead Middlesbrough's attack as they look to extend their positive run.
