Nottingham Forest displayed a serious statement of intent by defeating Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium at the weekend - almost nine years to the day that they did the same at the City Ground.

The Reds picked up a late 1-o win under Sabri Lamouchi on Saturday afternoon, but were much more comfortable winners against the Welsh side when claiming their first win of the 2010/11 campaign.

On that day, Lewis McGugan scored a brace to help Forest pick up all three points, in a 3-1 home win against Brendan Rodgers' side - one of many fine moments that the midfielder had whilst wearing a Garibaldi shirt.

Nine years later, we take a look at how McGugan's career has panned out since, as we ask the question "Where is he now?"...

McGugan came through the ranks at the City Ground after being on Forest's books as young boy, and he made his debut for the Reds in 2006, eight days before his 18th birthday.

The 30-year-old went on to make 18 appearances for Forest that season, but it was the 2007/08 promotion-winning campaign where his career really came to life.

Despite missing the start of the season through injury, McGugan was one of Forest's most crucial players as they won promotion from League One under Colin Calderwood - the midfielder scored seven goals in 36 games, including the decisive goal against Yeovil that secured promotion on the final day of the season.

McGugan then became even more important for Forest over the next few years, but endured a short spell away from the team after being labelled as "overweight" by Calderwood's successor Billy Davies.

The pair soon resolved their issues, and as time went by, McGugan played even more and scored even more, with one of those strikes standing out above all - a rocket of a free-kick against Ipswich Town in 2010, which is arguably one of the best goals ever to be scored at the City Ground.

But after an array of managerial changes and uncertainty on Trentside, McGugan departed the club for Watford on a free transfer in 2013, making a total of 230 appearances for Forest and finding the net 44 times.

After an unsuccessful spell with Watford, he then moved to Sheffield Wednesday in 2014, initially on loan, before the Owls made his move permanent in 2015 after two temporary spells at Hillsborough.

Two years later, he found himself in League One with Northampton Town, where his career began to stagnate after scoring one goal in just 14 games for the Cobblers.

After a four-month stay at Sixfields in the 17/18 campaign, McGugan has since been without a club, despite being on trial with Cambridge United and Port Vale in the second-half of last season.

Still based in the East Midlands, McGugan is still somewhat involved with Forest after appearing on BBC Radio Nottingham's Matchtalk from time-to-time, but you feel that at the age of 30, he will be desperate to find a new club sooner rather than later.
