The announcement of the PFA's various Teams of the Year is always a hotly anticipated occasion amongst fans - for some reason.

It is a chance for them to get angry when their favourites are not included and then throw that anger in all directions, not really knowing who to pin the blame on.

For the players involved, however, you can forgive them caring a bit more. It is unlikely that they are particularly bothered what various journalists or the EFL staff  think of them, but garnering praise from your fellow professionals will always be held in high regard.

One player who could have justifiably come away from the Championship's announcement a tad disappointed is Leeds United's Kalvin Phillips.

The defensive midfielder has been consistently brilliant in a difficult role to play, arguably becoming Marcelo Bielsa's most important player - an argument strengthened by the club's capitulation to Brentford in his absence on Monday.

But snatching the midfield positions instead were his teammate Pablo Hernandez, Sheffield United's Oliver Norwood and Aston Villa's Jack Grealish.

It is hard to argue with any of the inclusions, although Grealish's appearance despite only coming to the fore in the last ten matches may feel a bit generous when compared to Phillips' consistent performances over the entire season.

But Phillips cannot afford to feel despondent for long. After back-to-back defeats over the Easter weekend, Leeds now face a mammoth task to get back into the automatic promotion places but building momentum could be vital in the play-off battle, if that is what it comes to.

The Whites have proved people wrong on many occasions this season and that is something that Phillips as an individual must now do.

He must go out onto the pitch against Aston Villa and Ipswich Town and prove to those he comes up against exactly why they should have picked him.

Using this snub as motivation is now the best thing that the 23-year-old can do ahead of the rest of the season; for himself, his teammates and the masses of fans who will no doubt continue to back them until the very end.
