Bristol City have recalled goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott from League Two side Forest Green Rovers, to try and improve the Robins' squad.

The 23-year-old has been getting his first opportunity within league football this season at the League Two promotion chasers, making 15 appearances across the first half of the season before losing his spot to Adam Smith in between the sticks.

Having settled for a spot on the bench in recent weeks, City manager Lee Johnson has now made the decision to recall the academy product back to Ashton Gate in order to warm their bench, where he will be the 'club-developed' option.

Wollacott would serve as backup to current No.1 Dan Bentley, and it would open the door for striker Antoine Semenyo to head out on loan instead of sitting on the Robins' bench every week.

The 23-year-old is highly thought of at Ashton Gate, having put pen to paper on a two-year contract in the summer with the option of a further year, before sealing his move down the road to The New Lawn.

Questions will likely be asked regarding the future of Niki Maenpaa, Bentley's current understudy at Ashton Gate.

The Verdict

Having fallen out of favour at Forest Green, it made sense for Johnson to recall him from his loan.

Having got a good taste of league football while playing in League Two, his involvement on the bench will allow Semenyo to get the game-time he deserves and Wollacott will get to experience life on a matchday for a Championship side.
