Reading forward Yakou Meite has hit back at a fan after their 3-0 win at home to Derby County in the Championship at the weekend.

Meite was on target for the Royals as they picked up their first win in four, with other goals from Charlie Adam and Lucas Joao sealing the win at the the Madejski.

It lifted Mark Bowen's side to 16th in the Championship - a place above the Rams and seven points above the drop zone.

But not all fans were happy with the result or indeed with Meite's performance, and one fan tweeted him asking why he hadn't clapped the fans after the 1-1 draw at Barnsley in the same way he did in the win against Derby.

According to Berkshire Live, Meite responded with:

"I love the REAL FANS who come to the game to support the team, but when I see people like you I don’t think you deserve any clap at the end, you know why?"

The Tweets have since been removed but it shows the unrest that is still present amongst the fan base - the initial appointment of Bowen was seen as uninspiring by supporters, and a lot of fans think the club is lacking direction under the Welshman.

Results have certainly improved under Bowen though and as the January transfer window draws near, Reading could well add to their squad and improve their chances of having a successful season.

The verdict

It was a fine performance from Reading on Saturday but you can't impress everyone - all that Reading and Bowen can do is keep on winning game, and silence any critics on the pitch.
