Bristol City will be hoping they can finally take the next step this season, after falling just short of play-off qualification in 2018/19.

The Robins finished eighth, slipping out of the top six after they won just once in their last six games.

Despite that disappointment, there were positives to be taken from last season as City bettered their league finish for the fourth consecutive year after returning to the Championship in 2015.

Lee Johnson has been busy adding some quality to his squad this summer, with eight new players arriving in the South West.

City have also seen a number of players leave, with Lloyd Kelly the most notable departure. Star centre-back Adam Webster also looks on his way out, as the club have reportedly accepted a £20 million bid from Brighton.

The Robins welcome Leeds United to Ashton Gate on Sunday for their league opener, a tough fixture first up against a side that should be competing right at the top of the table this season.

But who can we expect City to line-up against the Whites?

The Robins have added goalkeepers Rene Gilmartin and Daniel Bentley this summer and, with Niki Maenpaa injured and Max O’Leary out on loan, the latter looks set to start against Leeds.

With Webster seemingly on his way to Brighton, Nathan Baker looks likely to pair summer signing Tomas Kalas in central defence, with Jack Hunt on their right and another arrival from Chelsea, Jay Dasilva, on their left.

Marlon Pack and Josh Brownhill were integral to the Robins in central midfield in the 2018/19 campaign and Johnson will surely utilise that duo against Leeds.

Ahead of them, summer signing Sammie Szmodics has impressed in pre-season and I’m backing Johnson to look to use him at number 10.

After showing flashes of brilliance last season, this could be Niclas Eliasson’s year and he looks likely to start on the right flank with experienced operator Andreas Weimann on the left.

The Robins have made their pursuit of a striker no secret but as they are yet to bring anyone in, Famara Diedhiou looks like the clear choice to lead the line.
