It's going to be a massively important 2019 for West Bromwich Albion, as they look to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking this season.

Darren Moore's men currently sit three points off the automatic promotion places, ahead of a hugely important game against Norwich City this Saturday, who occupy the final automatic promotion spot in the table.

The January transfer window is going to be mightily important in Albion's bid for promotion this season - they are the division's top scorers, but there is a feeling that they still need to strengthen if they are to achieve their goals this campaign.

They have already started to bolster the squad after the loan signing of Everton defender Mason Holgate, but there is much more work to be done.

Here, we take a look at how the West Brom XI could look at the end of the January transfer window...

We're going to go with the 3-4-1-2 formation here - a system which served Darren Moore's men incredibly well at the start of the season, but has had to change it in recent times due to injuries and suspensions.

Sam Johnstone obviously keeps his place in goal, and the back three looks fairly familiar, bar the recent addition of Mason Holgate. Able to play at either centre-half or right-back, he slots in nicely on the right-hand side of defence.

It's hard to drop Tosin Adarabioyo after a string of impressive performances this season, but with so many important games to come, he'll be able to feature when Moore makes rotations to his squad.

Whilst the wing-back positions look the same, there are two potential additions in midfield. The Baggies have been linked with the signings of Newcastle's Isaac Hayden and Everton's James McCarthy, and the pair would be very welcomed additions at The Hawthorns, with the likes of Gareth Barry and Chris Brunt approaching the latter stages of their career.

But, undoubtedly, the most important piece of business Albion can conduct in January, is keeping hold of talisman Harvey Barnes. Recent reports claim that Leicester are planning to re-call the attacking midfielder, which would be a detrimental blow in the Baggies' push for promotion.
