Reading have made their academy a part of their identity over the past couple of decades.

At the latest count, 66 players from the youth system have gone on to play for the first team, with five alone making their debut this term ahead of what could be a very bright future at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

The Royals have produced their fair share of gems in recent years, including Michail Antonio, Michael Olise, Shane Long, Omar Richards and Hal Robson Kanu.

Apparently the former doesn’t count as an academy graduate, but after playing in the club’s youth system for a number of years, we have decided to class him as one. In fact, he’s probably more eligible to be called one than Shane Long, but let’s include both as two excellent players.
