Charlton travel to Peterborough this weekend looking to open up a big gap between themselves and the sides outside the play-off race.

A win for Lee Bowyer's side would see a ten point gap open up between themselves and Doncaster in seventh, a side in FA Cup action this weekend. It's a great achievement by Bowyer after a turbulent time off the field.

It's not all lightness and joy at the Valley though. Their good form has been marred by the red card for Lyle Taylor last weekend, as well as Premier League interest in Karlan Grant. As things stand the striker is still a Charlton player and he'll likely lead the line on his own this weekend.

Bowyer recently let Nicky Ajose join Mansfield on loan, meaning he is without a back up striker for the visit to London Road. It might mean a change in formation, as we explore here.

It's highly likely that Bowyer will resort to a 4-2-3-1 to accommodate the suspension Taylor is serving. If Ajose was still with the side he would surely play in a flat 4-4-2, but that's not the case. Igor Vetokele is still injured too, leaving the Addicks light on options up front.

That will mean a fresh role in midfield to be filled. Academy graduate Albie Morgan should be back after missing the Accrington draw and he'll likely hold the middle of the park with Darren Pratley.

Ahead of them, West Ham loanee Josh Cullen will likely start, with another loan player in the bank of three in Krystian Bielik. Jonny Williams will make up the attacking threat behind Karlan Grant.

At the back, it will be as you were. Ben Purrington has impressed since joining the club at the start of the month and Patrick Bauer and Mo Sarr are established in the centre back role. Chris Solly will play on the right hand side of defence and Chris Maxwell will be forced to wait for a start in goal after his switch from Preston.
