Angus Gunn remains Leeds United’s prime target this summer as Marcelo Bielsa looks to add another goalkeeper to his playing squad at Elland Road.

Yesterday saw Felix Wiedwald depart Elland Road after just 12 months, with Leeds now on the lookout for reinforcements ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

A report from the Yorkshire Evening Post has again stated that Gunn is Leeds’ prime target this summer, with Leeds hoping to bring the Manchester City goalkeeper on board.

Bielsa’s long-standing relationship with Pep Guardiola is common knowledge, with Leeds hoping the 62-year-old can convince City to send Gunn his way this summer.

Last year, Gunn enjoyed a fine first year in senior football, impressing whilst on a season-long loan with Norwich City.

The 22-year-old featured on 51 occasions last season and was ever-present in the Sky Bet Championship, helping Daniel Farke’s Norwich to a mid-table finish.

Despite Leeds’ pursuit of Gunn and sale of Wiedwald, the Whites still have Andy Lonergan and Bailey Peacock-Farrell on board.

The latter finished last season as Leeds’ No.1, having taken charge of the gloves following inconsistent spells from both Lonergan and Wiedwald.

The Verdict

Leeds need a new goalkeeper this summer, with Wiedwald’s exit opening the door for Bielsa to make his move.

Gunn is a clear target and Bielsa’s relationship with Guardiola certainly gives Leeds an edge in the race to sign the 22-year-old on-loan.

In Peacock-Farrell, Leeds have their future No.1, so only bringing a goalkeeper in on-loan will give him the hunger to push on ahead of next season.

Gunn seems like the perfect fit for Leeds.
