Matty Kennedy has taken to his personal Twitter account to deliver a message following his man-of-the-match display for Portsmouth against Gillingham on Sunday.

The winger, who is on-loan at Fratton Park from Cardiff City, struck the only goal of a tight contest on Sunday afternoon, as Kenny Jackett’s Pompey moved to 13th in the Sky Bet League One table.

The 22-year-old’s well taken strike just after half-time topped a memorable display, which saw the winger dazzle against Portsmouth’s struggling opposition.

Kennedy has now taken to Twitter to express his delight after his match winning performance, he wrote: “Buzzing with the win today! Lads were on Nice one for the support and delighted to get a Goal & MOM.”

Since his arrival from Cardiff late in the summer transfer window, Kennedy has impressed, making eight appearances for Pompey and scoring two goals, helping Jackett’s side continue to adapt to life back in the third-tier.

Portsmouth are now 13th in the table, having picked up 17 points from their opening 12 fixtures, which leaves them just three points behind sixth placed, Charlton Athletic.

Pompey will take a midweek break from action, but return on Saturday afternoon against MK Dons, which is the start of a hectic week for Jackett and his side.

Following the clash with MK Dons, Pompey face long trips to Doncaster Rovers and Blackburn Rovers to complete a testing week.

The Verdict

Kennedy’s performance yesterday was excellent, with the winger once again showing why Portsmouth made the effort to bring him to the club from Cardiff City.

The 22-year-old could be key to Portsmouth pushing on for the play-offs this season, which Jackett’s side will only be able to do if they start to consistently pick up results.

Yesterday’s victory over Gillingham was an important result, and Pompey’s supporters will be hoping for more of the same in the coming week.
