Birmingham City winger Connor Mahoney is open to returning to the club next season from parent club Bournemouth after he insisted he just wants to be playing regularly.

The 22-year-old arrived on a season-long loan in the summer and after a tough start he has established himself as a regular for Garry Monk's side, impressing with his ability on the ball.

That has made him a fan favourite and the support are hoping that Blues can do a deal to bring the former Blackburn man back next season.

And, Mahoney's comments to Birmingham Live suggest he will be more than happy to return to St. Andrew's.

"I will meet with the gaffer down in Bournemouth, just have a little chat about the season. I have got a few years left there but I will reiterate I need to be playing week in week out.

"If the gaffer did want me back here and it was right for my parent club, they want me to go on loan again and get a good season in - and they were interested, I wouldn’t think twice about coming back for another season."

Mahoney returned to the bench on Saturday after missing the two games prior to that through injury and will hope to feature against Reading on Sunday.

The Verdict

This is very good news for Birmingham and you wouldn't be surprised to see Mahoney return to the club next season as it seems to be a good fit for all parties.

Obviously, his aim will be to play in the Premier League but the reality is that the Cherries have better options out wide right now.

So, another loan seems inevitable and Blues should be doing all they can to tie a deal up as soon as possible.
