Whilst full focus at Leeds United is on the first-team's push for promotion, the club’s under-23s continue to impress and recorded a 2-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers in the Professional Development League earlier in the week.

Leeds’ 23s are currently flying under the management of Carlos Corberan, with their performance at Elland Road on Monday further showcasing what a talented crop the Whites have coming through.

Whilst Jordan Stevens and Robbie Gotts scored the goals to make the difference, they were expertly set up by Hugo Diaz, who produced a controlled display wearing the No.4 shirt.

Diaz, 22, has one senior appearance to his name, which came under the management of Paul Heckingbottom during last season’s run-in. So far this season, Marcelo Bielsa has overlooked him, whilst many of Diaz’s under-23 teammates have progressed and made first-team debuts.

That will obviously be frustrating for Diaz, who at 22, will be starting to realise that he needs to be pushing on and staking a claim for the first-team at Leeds.

Of course, he can do little about Leeds’ impressive form in the Championship and how Kalvin Phillips is marshalling the midfield. Whilst his under-23 performances have been good enough to say he’s doing the best he can to be noticed.

However, that won’t deflect any of the disappointment that might come from not earning a chance at Leeds when there’s been such a reliance on the club’s under-23s.

A chance might be just around the corner for Diaz and performances like he produced against Bolton indicate that he will be ready if called upon, but there is definitely a sense of ‘now or never’ for Diaz in the next 12 months.

He needs to push on and become a first-team regular - performances like the one he produced at Bolton will help, but he might need to do even more.
