Swansea City striker Oli McBurnie has issued a rallying cry ahead of the visit of Leeds United on Tuesday night.

The Swans striker was once a member of the Leeds United academy and is looking forward to renewing a rivalry with his former side.

Albeit the current crop will be vastly different from the youth team he played in before his departure from the club, the striker will be looking to get one over his old side.

McBurnie has impressed so far this season, starting all three of their Championship games, and scoring in the first game of the season, against Sheffield United.

The 22-year-old is relishing the encounter with his former side after a positive run of results to start the new campaign off.

McBurnie told Swansea’s official website: “As a team, we know what Leeds are about and the manager will have a game-plan, so it’s up to us to execute that.

“They are a really good team, but we go into this game with confidence.

“The manager has a lot of faith in us, and we have taken a lot from our opening three games, but we are well aware that we have a lot to improve on.

“This will be a big test for us.”

The Verdict

If anyone has a point to prove tomorrow night, it will be Oli McBurnie, the former Leeds youth player.

It’s been a number of years since his release, and he has gone on to forge a relatively decent career, a high point being his loan spell with Barnsley last term.

McBurnie will now look to find that form regularly and no doubt he is hoping to get one over his former side.

It will be a severe test, the toughest for both clubs so far this season.

Both sides will need to be at their best, and if the striker is too, he and his teammates could well inflict a first defeat of the season on Marcelo Bielsa’s men.
