22-year-old forward relishing chance to play alongside this Forest signing

Nottingham Forest forward Zach Clough is relishing the chance to play alongside summer signing Daryl Murphy this season, reports The Nottingham Post.

34-year-old Murphy left Premier League-bound Newcastle United to link up with the East Midlands giants over the summer, and bagged his first goal for the club in their 4-3 victory over Brentford on Saturday, in turn helping them secure their second league win in as many games.

The former Ipswich Town and Sunderland striker has an incredible record at Championship level, having bagged 83 goals in 276 games at second tier level, and Forest teammate Clough, who himself only signed for the club back in January, is relishing the opportunity of playing alongside one of the most prolific forwards in the division.

He said: ‘He looks really fit and he is a handful for any defender. I look forward to playing with him, because I think I can link up well with him.

‘He will bring other players into the game and I look forward to playing with him. He will create lots of chances for us this season, I am sure.’

These comments are sure to intrigue Forest supporters, who have seen their side get off to an excellent start to the campaign with three wins in all competitions, in which time they have scored seven goals.

And with Murphy already underway for the campaign, as are new signings Barrie McKay and Andreas Bouchalakis, optimism has certainly been restored around the City Ground, and is steadily building ahead of what could be an fruitful season.

The Verdict: Daryl Murphy’s record at Championship level is mightily impressive, no wonder young forward Zach Clough is looking forward to playing alongside him for Nottingham Forest this season.

But the 22-year-old played particular attention to Murphy’s all round attributes and overall benefit to the team, which is sometimes lost in amongst his fine goal-scoring exploits.

Alongside his 83 goals at second tier level, he has also laid on 43 assists – not only is he a goal-scorer, but he is a goal creator as well.

And Clough and the rest of his Forest teammates will seek to benefit from this as the season progresses.
