Brentford have confirmed that defender Rico Henry has signed a new long-term contract with the Championship club.

The 22-year-old has signed a four-year deal with the Bees, extending his stay at Griffin Park until the summer of 2023.

The left-back scored one goal in 15 appearances for Brentford in all competitions last season and has started all four of their Championship games so far this term.

Henry joined Brentford from Walsall in 2016, but has struggled with injuries since arriving at Griffin Park, making a total of 41 appearances in all competitions throughout his time at the club.

He becomes the second Brentford player to commit his long-term future to the club in as many weeks, after forward Ollie Watkins also signed a new four-year deal earlier this month.

Brentford finished eleventh in the Championship table last season, ten points outside the play-off places and will be hoping to challenge for a top-six finish this term.

The Bees are currently 18th in the Championship table after taking four points from their opening four league matches and will be looking for their first win in two games against Charlton Athletic tomorrow.

The Verdict

This is good news for Brentford. Henry is an exciting young player, so it's encouraging that he's decided to commit his long-term future to the club.

He's been very unlucky with injuries throughout his time at Brentford, but he's made a very encouraging start to the new season and could have an important role to play for the Bees this term.

Henry can play at full-back or at wing-back, so he's a very useful option for Thomas Frank to have in his squad.
