West Bromwich Albion winger Oliver Burke is set to return to the Hawthorns this summer with a proposed permanent move to Celtic now in doubt, report the Express and Star

Burke was signed by Brendan Rodgers back in the January transfer window but with the Leicester City job taking him away from Celtic Park, his replacement Neil Lennon did not take as much of a shining to the former RB Leipzig man.

And with Lennon now being given the role on a permanent basis it looks like a permanent move to the Glasgow club could well be off, casting Burke's future into doubt.

He cost the Baggies nearly £14million back in 2017 but struggled for starts throughout his time with the club but looked to have found his home with the Scottish giants.

He scored four goals in his first seven matches but was frequently dropped to the bench once Lennon took control at the club once again.

The verdict

This will be really gutting for Burke and I must say I feel for him.

He has not had an easy time of it at all with West Brom and Celtic looked like a genuine way out for him to start enjoying his football again.

Hopefully the 2019/20 season will be a successful one for him anyway, wherever he ends up.
