Lewis Travis has hailed Tony Mowbray for choosing to play young players rather than entering the transfer market for new additions.
Blackburn Rovers had a quiet January window - something which was a bit of a surprise given the number of injuries sustained over the last couple of months.
Instead, Mowbray has kept the faith with his existing players, as well as handing an opportunity to some of the younger players.
As well as Travis, Joe Rankin-Costello made his first Blackburn start against Middlesbrough and Travis said that this is a huge boost for all of the young talent at the club.
Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, Travis said: “If you look we’re a young group and the players coming through have lots of ability and hopefully they can come and grasp their opportunity.
“The younger players, if you look at the transfer window and no-one coming in, that’s a boost.
“The gaffer is willing to give young players a chance and when it comes you just have to take it.
“He believes in the young players, and rightly so, because they’re all very good players.”
The verdict
Blackburn Rover's philosophy of giving young players a chance is a huge boost for the youngsters.
Tony Mowbray's side have a number of talented players in the set-up, but like many other clubs, it's difficult for them to be given the chance to step up.
Blackburn's approach of giving them a chance will certainly prove to be beneficial in the years to come, and with finances increasingly tight in the second tier it could be a valuable tool moving forward.
As long as they can keep getting results then I'm sure Mowbray will be delighted.
