Peterborough United kick-off their season this Saturday against Bristol Rovers with a squad that will be full of strangers for the fans.

Steve Evans has led a huge overhaul of players, bringing in 15 new faces and selling or loaning out 19 members of last season's squad.

Only four members of Grant McCann's squad from last summer and the January window remain, with George Cooper, Joe Ward, Ryan Tafazolli and Marcus Maddison amongst those still on the books under ex-Leeds and Rotherham boss, Evans.

But just how will Evans lay out his new squad on the opening day of the season, as he looks to pick up three points against Rovers and start Peterborough's campaign in the perfect fashion.

Here at FLW, we take a look at the starting XI we believe Evans should be fielding tomorrow afternoon at the ABAX Stadium...

Chapman is the obvious candidate between the sticks.

Connor O'Malley impressed in spells for the Posh last season, but after he was named League Two's best goalkeeper last season with Accrington, Chapman is the man.

At right-back should Jason Naismith.

The 24-year-old was dubbed one of the best right-backs in the SPL last season and his physical presence will be a big factor in a Steve Evans XI this season.

He is perfectly capable of getting forward as well as he has proved in pre-season.

Filling one of the centre-back positions should be one of the survivors from last season's squad in Tafazolli.

He was one of a few players who impressed and should retain his place.

Rarely beaten in the air and tough in the tackle, he should be a favourite of Steve Evans.

Partnering Tafazolli should be former Crawley Town centre-back Josh Yorwerth.

Another one who is not afraid to put his head in where it hurts but equally a tidy passer of the ball, he should be starting on Saturday.

If these two can form a strong partnership from the start it could be the difference between achieving promotion and not.

Left-back is a position with a closer battle, with Colin Daniel challenging Leeds loanee Tyler Denton closely.

But I would side with Denton on this occasion.

The youngster offers a lot more in attack than the former Blackpool man which will be needed in a defence, whose primary feature is solidity.

On the left of midfield should be new boy Siriki Dembele, who has moved to the Posh from Grimsby Town this summer.

The 21-year-old has dazzled in pre-season, scoring a handful of stunning goals cutting in on his stronger right-foot and terrorising his fullback.

In the first of the central midfield spots should be newly appointed club captain, Alex Woodyard.

He seems to be adored by manager Steve Evans and the man famed for his tough tackling and tireless running will most likely be an ever-present in the squad this season.

Next to Woodyard is another tougher decision for Evans, but I think Reed is the man to go with.

Not a lot should be made of pre-season, obviously, but when all the candidates for the position are new signings it is all you can go on.

Reed has outshone the likes of Mark O'Hara in all pre-season matches so far, and Calum Cooke has not had enough time to bed into the squad yet to be effective, so Reed is the man.

On the right should be another survivor from last season in George Cooper.

The heir apparent to Marcus Maddison, who is all set to leave this summer, Cooper shone towards the end of last season with his set-piece delivery particularly impressing.

In attack, and with the unenviable task of replacing Jack Marriott's goals, should be Forest loanee Jason Cummings.

Cummings has struggled for goals since his move south from Hibs but he is clearly capable of scoring a lot of goals this season.

If he can get off to a quick start on Saturday, he will be a great asset for Posh.

Partnering Cummings should be fellow new marksman Matty Godden.

Godden has quietly impressed during pre-season despite not finding the net much himself.

His work rate off the ball has not gone unnoticed and his ability in the air will be a real threat against Bristol Rovers.
