21-year-old Birmingham winger lifts lid on Blackpool loan spell

Birmingham City winger Viv Solomon-Otabor, currently on loan at League One side Blackpool, has lifted the lid on his spell in the North West via the Tangerines’ official website.

The 21-year-old came up through the ranks at St Andrew’s and has since earned 30 appearances for the first team, although has bagged just one goal in that time.

That solitary strike came back in November 2015 in a 5-2 victory at Fulham, but other than that he’s found things tricky with the Midlands outfit, and has been shipped out on loan to Oxford City, Bolton Wanderers, and now Blackpool in a bid for more regular first team football.

And with six appearances in all competitions for Gary Bowyer’s side, with two assists to match, Solomon-Otabor is clearly making an impression in the North West, although is hoping that he can get his first goal for the club sooner rather than later.

He said: ‘I was disappointed not to get a goal, but at the end of the day we got the three points. Hopefully the goals will come.

‘I am settling fine and everyone has welcomed me. I get on with everybody and I just want to thank everyone for making me feel welcome.’

These comments are sure to interest both Birmingham and Blackpool fans alike, with the former having struggled somewhat for goals so far this season, yet were still happy to sanction the 21-year-old’s loan move to Bloomfield Road.

While the Tangerines faithful have seen Solomon-Otabor pick up key assists in their victories over MK Dons and Oldham Athletic so far this term, and will be hoping for more from the winger as the season wears on.

The Verdict: It wasn’t too much of a surprise that Birmingham City allowed Viv Solomon-Otabor to move on loan again this term, what with the winger earning just three Championship appearances for the Blues last season, which totalled just 14 minutes of action.

So his comments that he is enjoying his time at Blackpool is sure to delight Blues chief Harry Redknapp, while also thrilling the Tangerines given that the 21-year-old has made a fine start to the campaign, although is critical of himself for failing to net thus far.

It’s refreshing to see players always striving to improve despite a solid enough start, and that will surely stand Solomon-Otabor, and indeed Blackpool, in good stead ahead of the rest of his spell at Bloomfield Road.
