The new football season is nearly upon us, with Luton Town facing Middlesbrough in the first EFL game of the season on Friday night.

Both sides, who both have different ambitions for the forthcoming season, will be looking hit the ground running in the first game of what is shaping up to be another enthralling EFL campaign.

Both sides also have new managers, with Graeme Jones taking over from interim boss Mick Harford in the home dugout, and Jonathan Woodgate taking the reins of the Teesside club in the other.

For Middlesbrough, it's all about turning over a new leaf and making a fresh start to life under Woodgate, after missing out on promotion to the Premier League in recent years under the watchful eye of Tony Pulis.

Woodgate has been relatively busy in strengthening his squad ahead of the new season, with three new faces arriving at the Riverside Stadium.

He will have learnt a lot about his squad in pre-season, but with the real action about to begin, we take a look at how we expect Middlesbrough to line up at Kenilworth Road tomorrow night.

In their last couple of pre-season games, Boro have gone with a 4-2-3-1 formation, and but we think that a 4-3-3 system would work best for Woodgate's side on Friday night, against a Luton side that like to pack the midfield.

Starting off in goal, Darren Randolph is expected to be fit for the season opener, despite seeing Tomas Mejias take his place in between the sticks for the majority of pre-season.

Jonny Howson was used as a wing-back in parts of last season, and after playing in a similar role this pre-season, the former Norwich and Leeds man is expected to start at right-back.

New recruit Marc Bola, a summer signing from League One side Blackpool, will also be looking to start for Boro, but we have gone with Hayden Coulson, who has really impressed Woodgate in pre-season.

In central defence, Daniel Ayala and Ryan Shotton look set to start, with Dael Fry and George Friend looking uncertain to feature due to injury - the latter could well make a return from the sidelines, though.

Boro have an array of talented players in the middle of the park, and it looks like George Saville, Adam Clayton and Lewis Wing will look to start, with Clayton sitting slightly further back.

Boro also have plenty of flair going forward, none other than new recruit Marcus Browne from Oxford United. The playmaker was excellent for Karl Robinson's side last term, and he could flourish as an inside forward on Friday.

Marcus Tavernier starts on the other flank, whilst Britt Assombalonga will be hoping for another fine season in front of goal, starting on Friday night.
