Leeds United currently sit top of the Championship heading into this weekend’s round of games to kick-off the Christmas period.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are one point clear of second-placed Norwich City after 22 matches with an away trip to Aston Villa to navigate this weekend.

No sooner will the festive fixtures be completed and the January transfer window’s doors slide open for business throughout the first month of 2019.

United need to strengthen after a clutch of injury problems during the first half of the campaign, as well as bolstering their ranks to compensate for the impending loan exit of Samuel Saiz.

January will be an important month for Bielsa and Leeds as they look to find the right mix of recruits to continue their charge towards a place back in the Premier League.

With that said, here are four deals at Elland road we can see happening for Leeds United in 2019.

The 24-year-old is currently on loan at Trabzonspor for the season, having scored two goals in ten appearances for the Turkish Super Lig side.

You would imagine if he was not in Marcelo Bielsa’s plans at the start of the season he won’t be in there now, and January could see the striker depart on a permanent basis to free up some of the wage bill for new year recruits.

The Newcastle United goalkeeper looks to be the man for the job between the sticks for Marcelo Bielsa and adding the 28-year-old could turn out to be a masterstroke.

He has experience of getting out of this league with the Magpies and could well deliver promotion for Leeds United too if he is indeed signed.

The Spanish striker has 12 goals in 16 appearances for Willem II this season and has been linked with a move to Leeds United.

The 26-year-old was once on the books of Real Madrid and is out of contract in the summer, which could prompt the Dutch side to offload the attacker to avoid losing him for free at the end of the season.

The 21-year-old Everton midfielder is highly rated at Goodison Park and could be a loan target for Leeds United in the new year.

The Whites are no strangers to temporary deals with the Premier League side, having loaned Matt Pennington from the Toffees last season.

Able to play in an attacking role down the middle, Marcelo Bielsa could instead use the youngster as a replacement for Samuel Saiz.

Dowell is handy with the ball at his feet and finding a key pass; he could be the perfect acquisition for Leeds to continue their promotion push and has Championship experience having been on loan at Nottingham Forest last season.
